The tool you wish existed

Here's a dumb one that I've thought about but haven't found a satisfying resolution for yet. There are a bunch of DCTLs out there called "tetra" with slight variations in terms of UI. However, they all have the same flaw that the underlying model is not smooth at all, so any adjustment fails C1 continuity.

So the goal would be to make a smooth version of Tetra that satisfies the following criteria:

1. At least C1 continuous
2. Regions that would be unaffected in vanilla Tetra remain as untouched as possible in Smooth Tetra.

It's not sexy but that's a project from my back burner I don't yet know how to do. Would be curious if you could crack it.

Hey Thatcher, just in case you missed it: http://www.liftgammagain.com/forum/index.php?threads/smooth-tetra.19445/
And I don’t think it’s dumb at all, because it theoretically fixed some issues I had with tetra so far.

I have a tool I can never find or create by myself.

I am looking for a way to basically segment the image into a certain number of hues similar to flat colours in comic production or ai segmentation. Posterisation is not the way I am going for, but more like extreme colour compression based on hue values. Take all the bluish hues and turn them into this blue, take all the yellow hues and average them into this hue, … Kind of like creating an albedo map for an image. Delighting tools so far only take out the luminance. I also want to get rid of hue variation. And filters like surface blur often lack a clear distinction between certain hues that we as human pick up on, but the filter just lumps together. It lacks a clear demarcation line.

This tool could be beneficial in creating highly stylised images (like a handpainted photochrome, woodblock print, riso-print segmentation) or serve as a baseline for more complicated looks. Might be even interesting for keying or masking.

If anyone has an idea of how I can achieve this, feel free to reach out and send me your suggestions.

Look development tools are always welcome. An ofx look development tool for various looks, commercial and film that can work in DWG and AcesCCT color spaces for live look development with clients would be a real benefit to my workflow. There is dehancer and filmbox but they are very focused on the film look and what I am missing is a hybrid tool that is more flexible and able to mix and match styles.
Have you taken a look at Cullen Kelly's Contour? It seems to be exactly what you're asking for (at least it is for me...)
