What is the best example of film emulation?

Hello! Just a very brief note to say it’s definitely not dead in the water - For full transparency, Vernon rightly pointed out some of the reasons all of this took a back seat due to a really tough and prolonged period of family health matters, but in more recent months I’ve actually just turned all my free time to renovating my kitchen! It’s also tough to gather momentum for another push as everything needs a fine tooth comb to test compatibility with the latest resolve and adobe line every time I dip back in.

But rest assured that outside of my full time job at ILM and any personal obstacles, Spectra is still first in my queue of extra curricular projects.

This is indeed awesome news! I look forward to the eventual release of SPECTRA FILM.

Yes, one of the things I like the most about film is how gracefully it handles overexposure problems. There's also a thing where the saturation goes down as exposure goes up, which is part of the way film chemistry works (in general). The lab guys at Tech used to tell me: "if a director tells us they want more saturation, we just nod our heads and drop the exposure (density) 4-5 points. If they want less saturation, we do the opposite." I asked the guy, "what if they want less sat in the blacks but leave everything else alone?", he laughed and said, "go do it in the D.I." So they were very limited in what they could do photochemically with film.

Glad to hear it! I hope your development goes well. Giving colorists more choices (especially with good software) is almost always a good thing.

Me habían recomendado este foro para aprender, pero es un nido de víboras de gente que por llevar años en el sector se cree más que los demás y para ayudar y llegar a los que recién empiezan, no volveré a ver este foro.

No te hagas mala sangre. Se puede aprender muchas cosas en este foro pero, si algo he aprendido con los años es, que el que mas sabe es el que menos esconde.

I don't know if it's still a going concern or not. The Film Emulation business is very crowded right now: I'd point to Colourlab/Grainlab, Dehancer, FilmBox, FilmConvert, Genesis, Reverator, and whatever Qazi is about to announce tomorrow as examples. Does the world need six or ten or twelve different ways to simulate film looks from digital?

Probably not, but from what I can remember, Spectra was also promoted as a tool that could be used by photographers in something like Photoshop. Right now, for photographers, all we really have is Dehancer.
