just ran a torture-test shot through Neat, DVO_Velvet, new Resolve native...
Thank you for clarification!typo, nest = neat
the values are Neat's anylsis on the exported files with NR baked in
Clairity is an OFX in Resolve,
no issues with first frame, but i'm always working with cam orig, so loads of handles - would expect any temporal effect to struggle with a shot with no handles
it's faster in 2024, the machine i tested on is z840 with 2x 2699v4 / 3080Ti
light years faster when compared to running it native in a z800 with 2x5690 / Quadro5000 a decade ago ;-)
but the new native NR in Resolve is (much) faster
That's been my issue, some of the developments are basically new ways of working with the old tools. is the color warper a new color engine or just a new way of dealing with curves. Same question I would have with color slices. Not being negative but would like for BM to ba open and explain the "new" technology a bit more. Look forward to hearing reports from the floor. My limited understanding of the new noise reduction is that it’s set more easily and not a new noise reduction method. Very happy with neat video plugin.
Thank you for clarification!
I don’t remember having the first frame issue in Phoenix, but it has been quite a break from when I was using it then ‘til the DVO OFXs coming out! I’d always thought Clarity was purely spacial processing. I can’t check as I’ve actually ditched them at our facility as they are too slow (on an 3.2 GHz 16-Core Xeon W with 2 x 32GB AMD W6900X) IMO for what they do, which isn’t unique, and keep dropping off the licensing halfway through play outs.
Looking forward to trying 19 and the NR but it might be awhile before I get my hands on it on a proper system.
Funny, I had the opposite reaction. Though I said I wasn't going to wait for NAB to see if there were new panels to replace our dead Mini, I did, kind of by default. I was going to order one right before the show then decided to hold off another week, "just in case."Back to the subject, I'm always interested in new panels being released. The new Micro panel looks very interesting.

As soon as I saw the new micro panel I ordered another Mini. I am not willing to rely on Bluetooth for anything I have to do to get my work done. It gives me enough grief with my headphones, mice, keyboards, car, etc. It's the devil's tech, I tell ya!
(and running 40 feet of USB over the ceiling to our server room isn't something I'm willing to do at this point. We're already wired for ethernet and it just works). I am surprised they're still selling the Advanced panel for $28k though and that it didn't see a price drop.
Adapters are asking for trouble. We try to avoid them when possible - home runs from device to server room whenever possible, and things just work.@Perry Paolantonio not to undermine your purchase (I would love to have a Mini myself), but you know there's USB over Ethernet adapters right? So you could just two of them, to switch from Panel -> USB -> Ethernet -> USB -> PC. Maybe I missed something or that would be too much switching, but just an idea from my side![]()
I am using something similar - made by Lindy = smooth sailing.@Perry Paolantonio not to undermine your purchase (I would love to have a Mini myself), but you know there's USB over Ethernet adapters right? There is a solution for that: Blackmagic has advised for several years that if you need to extend a USB device (like an Advanced Panel or a Mini Panel) a long distance, use one of these...(and running 40 feet of USB over the ceiling to our server room isn't something I'm willing to do at this point. We're already wired for ethernet and it just works). I am surprised they're still selling the Advanced panel for $28k though and that it didn't see a price drop.

Check my previous post, the PDF seems to be accurate. I think this was a bit of a Marketing mix-up, using images from an older model, maybe? The PDF seems to match the video reviews I've seen online in the last couple of daysDuring the blackmagic presentation one of the visual of the micro color panel was showing a mysterious knob not present on the physical end product and in the manual.
Instead of the "luma mix" knob there was a "blk offset" (black offset i presume) knob.
Do you know anything about this knob and it's purpose?
PS : actually a lot of buttons are different than the final model.

It basically converts USB to CAT5, which you can run for hundreds (maybe over 1000) feet. There's lots of facilities in LA using them for their various color rooms.
No need for such an expensive extender. I am using Mini panel without problems with cheapo USB to CAT5 extender from Amazon. Also works for streamdeck and wireless mouse & keyboard. That adapter costs almost as much as the panel! Adapters are just potential points of failure. Sure, they'll get you from point A to point B, but when it dies or starts to act flaky, it's just one more thing to have to debug.
Give me direct wires any day.
I get it. it can be done. But it's kind of moot at this point - our Mini panel arrives this morning. No need for such an expensive extender. I am using Mini panel without problems with cheapo USB to CAT5 extender from Amazon. Also works for streamdeck and wireless mouse & keyboard.
Sorry, I actually wanted to quote post by Rajneesh, I get that you need something else...I get it. it can be done. But it's kind of moot at this point - our Mini panel arrives this morning.
